Cork Gully Appoints Nirmal Heeralall and Mitesh Hassamal as Partners

Cork Gully is pleased to announce the appointment of Nirmal Heeralall and Mitesh Hassamal as Partners. Based in Mauritius, they bring extensive experience in restructuring, insolvency, and special situations, further strengthening the firm's ability to support clients across international markets.

As a leading international financial centre and a key gateway for investment into Africa and India, Mauritius continues to play an increasingly important role in complex cross-border investment structures. The appointments reflect growing demand for experienced advisers able to navigate financially stressed and multi-jurisdictional situations.

Cork Gully Managing Partner Stephen Cork said: “Our focus is on helping clients navigate financially stressed situations, often involving multiple stakeholders, jurisdictions and regulatory frameworks. Mauritius occupies a pivotal position in many international investment structures, particularly those involving Africa and India. Nirmal and Mitesh combine deep local market knowledge with extensive international experience advising on restructuring, insolvency, and special situations. Their appointments significantly strengthen our ability to deliver independent, partner-led advice to clients across Mauritius, Africa and international markets.”

Nirmal joins Cork Gully with more than 25 years’ experience advising on restructuring, insolvency, and recovery matters in Mauritius. He has led numerous significant restructuring and insolvency assignments and advised many of the country’s leading financial institutions, including its largest commercial bank, on distressed exposures across sectors including manufacturing, shipping, retail, hospitality, and real estate.

Nirmal said: “Mauritius continues to develop as an important international financial centre, and there is increasing demand for experienced restructuring advisers, particularly where businesses, stakeholders and assets span multiple jurisdictions. Cork Gully’s independent, commercially focused approach and international platform made it a compelling opportunity to join the firm.”

Mitesh brings more than 20 years’ experience advising financial institutions, investment managers and alternative asset managers on strategic transactions and capital raising. He has held senior roles at UBS, Credit Suisse and Truist Financial, before founding Redwood Finance.

Mitesh said: “Clients facing financial stress require clear, commercially focused advice delivered by experienced practitioners. Cork Gully has an excellent reputation for providing independent, senior-led advice in complex situations, and I am delighted to be joining the firm as it continues to expand internationally.”

These appointments reflect Cork Gully’s continued investment in its international restructuring, insolvency, and special situations platform. They follow a series of strategic partner appointments and geographic expansion, including the firm’s recent growth in the DACH region, further enhancing its ability to advise clients on complex cross-border restructurings and other special situations.
